You’ve had your massage, now what? It is so important after your massage to continue to drink plenty of fluids, especially water with electrolytes to help continue to get the toxins out of your system that we just stirred up.
You may experience some soreness or emotionally changes post massage. A good trick to help with your soreness is taking an epsom salt bath or taking some extra magnesium. Hot and cold packs are also a great addition to your post massage protocol. Remember, always end with cold and quit after 20 minutes.
Massages can bring up past emotions when working through the tissue, especially with Myofascial Release. If you experience this, take some time to process what your feeling and understand that it is okay! Prayer, talking it out and inhaling some essential oils like Cedarwood, Lavender or citrus oils can help you through it.
“Bruising” can also happen post massage if you are on any blood thinners or had cupping or gua sha added to your treatment. Though we do our best to prevent bruising from our hands, it can sometimes happen. Please, let us know before your next session, so we can alter our pressure. “No pain, no gain” does not apply here! But incase it does happen, cypress essential oil is perfect for helping reduce the signs of bruising.
It is always a great idea to take extra immune boosting supplementation to continue to support your body from the flushing toxins.
Eating something right after your massage is also a good idea because your blood sugar drops during the session.
That’s it! Some people experience these things and others don’t, but the biggest take away I want you to have is to drink, drink, drink. Fluids are the most important, and everything else is just extra.
Now you know what to do after your massage to get the most out of it!
